Festival History

The first combined effort by the Australian Multiple Birth Association and the Australian Twin Registry was a national twins’ picnic held at Government House, Melbourne on 5 March 2001.

junr-F-MZ-red-hairBy all accounts, it was a beautiful venue and a fantastic day with lots of activities for attendees. Although it was more so a picnic than a festival, it signified the birth of an idea.

It led to the first official Twins Plus Festival, essentially organised by AMBA with the ATR as sponsor, held in Canberra at Thoroughbred Park on 11 March 2006. Again, this was a huge success and rivalled twins festivals held around the world.

The second Twins Plus Festival, organised by AMBA, was held at Taronga Zoo, Sydney on 14 March 2009. Again it offered a beautiful venue with a fantastic networking opportunity for parents, researchers, sponsors and the general community in an informal, fun-filled day.

The third Twins Plus Festival was held on Sunday 18 March 2012 at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne.  It was the most successful festival ever with a record crowd of nearly 3000 attendees and a greatly expanded program, putting it firmly on the map as one of the truly remarkable twins festivals of the world.

The 2015 festival organisers are not resting on their laurels. We hope to present an even bigger and better event in 2015, and to attract many more twins from around Australia. We hope you can join us as we believe it will be an experience that you’ll never forget.
